QPR’s Director of Football Les Ferdinand has confirmed that his club recieved enquiries for midfielder Eberechi Eze during the January transfer window.
Ferdinand says that QPR fielded enquiries for three of their star players; Eze, Ilias Chair and Bright Osayi-Samuel.
Southampton have been linked with interest in midfielder Eze, although it is not clear as to whether they were one of the teams who enquired about his availability.
Speaking to QPR’s official website, Ferdinand said:
We had enquiries. To say offers would probably be wrong. We had offers for one. The rest were enquiries.
I think we did well to keep hold of them. We knew we were going to get enquiries because of the way the boys have been playing.
So it was nice to keep hold of the likes of those young players who we feel have shown a lot of promise and we think will further develop here at QPR.
READ SOUTHAMPTON VERDICT
Eze has been exceptional in the Championship for QPR this season and has, so far, produced 10 goals and six assists from attacking midfield for the midtable side.
He also currently tops the entire Championship for WhoScored ratings, with a score of 7.44, with Brentford’s Said Benrahma just behind him on 7.41.
This suggests that he has been one of, if not the, best players in the second tier this season. He is averaging 1.9 key passes and 3.2 dribbles per game for QPR, showing how effective he can be in the final third – with his 16 direct goal contributions also highlighting his effectiveness.
With Southampton having been interested in him earlier in the season, it will be interesting to see if they return in the summer should QPR fail to achieve promotion.
Southampton could offer Eze a route to the Premier League and, based on the stats provided above, he could be a player who can improve Saints’ creativity in midfield.
