Southampton are believed to be keen on signing Joakim Maehle from Genk in January.
Saints have held a long-term interest in the 22-year-old, who has emerged as one of Europe’s most promising right-backs in recent seasons.
Maehle was a target for Ralph Hasenhuttl in the winter transfer window last year, but no move came to fruition.
Southampton elected against signing another right-back in the summer, too, with Cedric Soares returning from his loan at Inter Milan to compete with Yan Valery for a starting berth.
However, with Cedric confirming his intention to leave Saints at the end of the season and struggling for form of late, it seems strengthening the full-back area is a priority in January.
