Southampton have been linked with a move for Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo in recent days.
The Frenchman could be offloaded on a temporary basis in the January transfer window after finding regular game time hard to come by during the first half of the season under Ernesto Valverde.
However, Todibo grabbed a rare chance with both hands on Tuesday night as he turned in an exceptional display in Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Inter Milan in their final Champions League group stage match.

Todibo has huge potential and would be a smart signing for several clubs. That might just rule Saints out of the race, as it’s hard to see what kind of pulling power the club have nowadays.
The young defender deserves to be playing games more regularly than he currently is, but forcing his way ahead of the likes of Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti was never going to be straightforward.
While it may be an overly optimistic transfer target for Saints, Todibo is the kind of defender who would significantly improve the team.
