Southampton fell to 13th place on the Premier League table after their 3-1 loss to Bournemouth on Friday night.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team selection came in for some criticism, and it was not hard to see why as Saints went two goals behind heading into the break.
Nathan Ake and Harry Wilson opened the scoring before James Ward-Prowse netted a penalty in the second half. The hosts pushed for an equaliser, but Callum Wilson capitalised on some horrendous defending to make it 3-1.
The defeat was certainly a disappointing one for Hasenhuttl and his side, but their attention will quickly turn to Tuesday night’s South Coast Derby against Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
Bournemouth were good value for their win at St Mary’s Stadium, but it certainly wouldn’t be unreasonable to suggest that Saints’ minds were elsewhere.
