Lecce have identified Wilfried Bony as a possible alternative to Guido Carrillo as they look to land a striker late on in the European transfer window.

According to a report from Corriere dello Sport, the newly-promoted Italian side are still assessing a number of options, but appear to have taken a particular liking to former Manchester City striker Bony.

Carrillo has been linked with a move to Lecce in recent days, and with just over a week remaining in the window, time is running out for the striker to get his move away from St Mary’s.

It was hardly likely that clubs would be flocking to sign Carrillo given how disastrous his £19 million move from AS Monaco to Southampton has been.

He had a reasonable season on loan at Leganes in 2018/19. Under Mauricio Pellegrino’s management, he found the back of the net on six occasions in La Liga.

However, he has yet to secure a move away from the club, and Ralph Hasenhuttl does not see him in his long-term plans for Saints.

Michael Obafemi and Shane Long are reliable deputies for the attacking berths, while the likes of Danny Ings, Che Adams and Nathan Redmond have all been favoured up top.

We need to get rid of Carrillo, but Lecce do not appear to have identified him as their number one target. Fingers crossed a club makes a genuine move for the 28-year-old…

Will Carrillo get a move before September 2?
