Lecce have reportedly identified Guido Carrillo as a possible signing this summer.

According to claims from Gianluca Di Marzio, the Italian outfit are on the lookout for a new forward, with Carrillo among the options currently under consideration.

Lecce secured promotion to Serie A last season and will hope to boast enough firepower to remain in the top flight this term.

The recent interest in Carrillo has largely come from Spain, so it’s interesting to see an Italian club now contemplating a move for him.

Joining Lecce would represent an intriguing step for Carrillo, but also a good opportunity. After falling out of favour at Southampton, and floating in mid-table with Leganes last season, he would have the chance to emerge as a real talisman for a new club in different surroundings.

Italy is a country that Carrillo has not yet tested himself in, and Lecce are now pushing to add to the squad that helped them climb up from Serie B.

Whether or not they will be able to match the financial demands that a swoop for the striker requires remains to be seen. However, it’s encouraging to see that clubs are circling, and Carrillo is more than likely to secure an escape route out of St Mary’s Stadium before the European transfer window shuts.
