Southampton are looking to use want away defender Wesley Hoedt in a potential swap deal for Club Brugge striker Emmanuel Dennis, according to Voetbal Krant.

It is reported that Saints are wanting to offload Hoedt this summer for around £7m, and with Club Brugge interested in the 26-year-old, Saints will look to include Hoedt in a deal to bring Dennis to the south coast.

The report suggests Saints are keen on signing Emmanuel Dennis, and will look use Hoedt in the deal in hope that the Belgian club will lower their £18m valuation of the Nigerian dramatically.

The Dutchman has fallen out of favour under Ralph Hasenhuttl and has been sent out on loan multiple times, but the club are now wanting to cut their loses and sell the defender this summer.

This would be a smart move for Southampton. It is clear that Hoedt has no future at the club, and not only would the Dutchman be off the wage bill, but the Saints would also be getting one of Europe’s most promising forwards at a reduced price.

This could turn out be a great piece of business from Hasenhuttl if the deal goes through, and would show a real state of intent by the club.

The deal could prove unlikely, however, as Brugge may be reluctant to reduce their valuation for one of their prized assets.
