Ralph Hasenhuttl is keen on bringing Austrian international Martin Hinteregger to Southampton in the upcoming transfer window, according to Sky Sports.
The Eintracht Frankfurt centre-back impressed for the German outfit this season and his performances have not gone unnoticed, with many hailing the defender as a ‘machine’.
Quite remarkably, the 27-year-old scored eight times in the league last season. He also provided two assists and even grabbed a goal in the Europa League – an incredible return for a centre-half.
Only Danny Ings managed more than eight league goals for Saints last season, so adding a defender that can chip in with a goal or two could improve this current Southampton squad.
It has been previously reported that Frankfurt value their goal-scoring defender at around £20 million.

With Frankfurt missing out on Europe this season, Hinteregger may fancy a new challenge in the Premier League.
The Saints’ performances over the second half of last season indicated that, with a few new additions to the squad, they could be contenders for a European spot next year.
Hasenhutll’s current options at centre-back are relatively strong with Jack Stephens and Jan Bednarek performing consistently and Jannik Vestergaard doing a decent job when called upon.
However, Hinteregger could offer a new dimension to the Southampton back-line, with many believing that the Austrian has Champions League pedigree.
