Valery urges Konate to make Southampton move

Southampton defender Yan Valery has urged RB Leipzig star Ibrahima Konate to join the club.

Valery was taking questions from his fans on Instagram and was told to ask Konate to join Southampton, and he obliged.

Speaking on his Instagram story (2/4/2020), Valery said “You need to come bro.”

Of course, this was likely all in jest and simply banter between the two players on Instagram. Valery has played with Konate at youth level for France, but it remains to be seen whether they will link up again at club level.

Konate has already made 58 first-team appearances for Leipzig, despite being just 20, and has experience in the Champions League. In the Bundesliga this season, he has averaged a WhoScored rating of 7.10, after managing a 7.19 rating in the German top-flight last term.

He has proven himself at the highest level for Leipzig at such a young age and is valued at a whopping £40.5m by Transfermarkt, highlighting just how well-thought-of he is in world football.

Taking this into consideration, it seems unlikely that Southampton will be able to sign him in one of the next few transfer windows. Southampton are currently in the bottom half of the Premier League table and do not have European football to offer

It must also be stressed that Southampton have not been linked with a swoop for the centre-back and that it is just Valery having some fun on his Instagram, but it could be fun to imagine!
