Factfile: Everything you need to know about Aaron Hickey

Southampton have recently been linked with a summer swoop for Hearts defender Aaron Hickey.

According to the Daily Mail, Southampton are one of a number of clubs keen on signing Hickey at the end of the season.

But, who is he? We’ve compiled a factfile on him to help you learn everything you need to know…

PROFILE

Hickey is a 17-year-old left-back who stands at 5ft 7.

He currently plays for Hearts in the Scottish Premiership and wears the number 51 shirt.

CLUB CAREER SO FAR

Hickey had a spell with Celtic in his early academy days before joining Hearts’ academy in 2018. He then went on to make his senior debut at the end of the 2018/19 campaign and also became the youngest player to play in a Scottish Cup Final since 2009 when Hearts lost to Celtic.

He has gone on to play over 30 games in all competitions for Hearts, scoring once this season.

INTERNATIONAL CAREER SO FAR

Hickey was born in Glasgow but has not yet represented Scotland at senior level. He has, however, been capped by his country by the under-17’s.

He has made three appearances at that level, with his debut coming in a 0-0 draw with France in 2019.

PRICE

No specific price has been mentioned thus far, although Hickey’s contract expires at the end of next season. This means that Hearts could risk losing him on a free transfer if they do not cash in on him this summer.

The report also claims that Hearts may need to sell Hickey in order to raise funds ahead of next season, which could be a boost for the Saints.

WHO ELSE IS INTERESTED?

Celtic, Everton, Crystal Palace and Manchester City are also reportedly interested in the defender. Palace are said to be leading the chase at this moment in time, so Southampton could need to act quickly in order to avoid missing out on a deal.
