Factfile: Who is Saints target Jose Sa?
Southampton have been linked with a summer move for Olympiacos goalkeeper Jose Sa as they look to bolster their squad.
Greek outlet SDNA have reported that Southampton are one of the teams interested in signing him from the Greek giants at the end of the season, whenever that may be.
But, who is he? We have put together a factfile to help you learn more about the shot-stopper.
PROFILE
Jose Sa is a 27-year-old goalkeeper who stands at 6ft 4.
He currently plays for Olympiacos in the Greek Super League, wearing the number one shirt.
CLUB CAREER SO FAR
Sa played for several teams during his youth career, including a short spell with Portuguese giants Benfica. He then made his professional debut for Maritimo in 2013, before signing for Porto in 2016.
In three years at Porto, Sa made just 15 league appearances and then signed for Olympiacos. He initially joined Olympiacos on loan, making 21 appearances last season, and then signed permanently in the summer of 2019.
INTERNATIONAL CAREER SO FAR
Sa was a regular for Portugal at various youth levels, making 31 appearances across the under-20, under-21 and under-23 age groups for his country.
He earned his first full call-up to the senior squad in May 2017, whilst at Porto, but did not make an appearance in any of the games. Since then, he has been in several squads but not made an official appearance for Portugal at senior level as of yet.
Despite not yet receiving his first cap, Sa has won a major trophy at international level with Portugal. He was a member of the 2019 UEFA Nations League winning squad.
WHO ELSE IS INTERESTED?
West Ham and Crystal Palace are also said to be interested in Sa and could provide some stiff competition for his services this summer. Sa is reportedly available for a fee in the region of £13.8m.
