What are they up to now? Dani Osvaldo

Dani Osvaldo’s time at Southampton was a rollercoaster, to say the very least, as he spent two years at the club.

The Italian striker joined Southampton for a club-record £15m from Roma in 2013, before a string of incidents led to him being released in the summer of 2015.

This included him scoring a famous goal against Manchester City, lobbing the goalkeeper from range after some impressive footwork to open an angle for himself. However, he was also banned for three games by the FA for causing a fight on the touchline against Newcastle and he was also fined by the club for starting a fight at training with club captain Jose Fonte.

Southampton, before releasing him, sent him on loan to both Juventus and Inter in Italy. He was unable to make an impression back in the Serie A, though, as he scored six goals in 22 games combined.

But, what is he up to these days?

Well, he’s actually still playing football! He currently plays for Argentinian side Banfield, which is also where he started his youth career – having been born in Argentina. Osvaldo signed a one-year deal with the club back in January after taking four years out of playing professional football.

Osvaldo retired in 2016 to focus on his music career and released a number of tracks, whilst also taking part in Dancing with the Stars in 2017. So he has gone from playing football and flopping in England to being a rock star after retiring and now he is back out on the pitch, although it remains unclear as to whether or not he is still pursuing his musical interests.

It will be interesting to see where Osvaldo goes from here. Will he find another club and continue his playing career? Will he retire for real this time and try his luck as a musician full-time? It’ll be fun to watch, that’s for sure!
