Southampton need to make a move for Joakim Maehle this summer as it has been revealed that Genk could be ready to sell him.
According to Voetbal Nieuws, Genk could be prepared to cash in on him this summer amid uncertainty over his future at the Belgian club.
Southampton and Manchester United have both been linked with the right-back heading into the summer window.
Voetbal Primeur also report that Genk value Maehle in the region of £7.5m, indicating how much Southampton may need to pay to land the defender.
If Genk are open to selling Maehle this summer, Southampton should be looking to pursue a deal for the Dane and add him to their squad. The right-back position is a problem for Southampton ahead of next season, with Yan Valery set to be the only senior option at the club this summer with Kyle Walker-Peters and Cedric Soares set to depart as things stand.
This means that Southampton could desperately need a right-back to come in and either be the first-choice option or challenge Valery for his spot in the side. Maehle has also been impressive for Genk this season and shown signs that he could be capable of making the step to the Premier League. He has averaged a WhoScored rating of 6.92 for club and country this term, whilst Valery has only managed a rating of 6.31 in the Premier League.
With these statistics in mind, it does appear as though Maehle could be an improvement on Valery. He is also only 22, one year older than Valery, and could still have plenty of room to develop and grow over the course of a number of seasons.
