A number of Southampton fans have reacted to Rickie Lambert admitting to having a moment when he thought his penalty record was about to end.
Lambert has revealed that he lost his confidence as he stepped up to score a winning penalty against Millwall in the Championship in 2012. He eventually scored from the spot, but he said that he was questioning himself during the run-up and that he actually mishit the shot.
The forward admitted that he was ready to put the ball to the left before changing his mind at the last second and shinning the ball, narrowly missing the goalkeeper’s boot as he dived out of the way.
During his Southampton career, Lambert scored all 34 of the penalties he stepped up to take – an incredible record that may never be broken again.
These Southampton fans took to Twitter to react to his comments, with some showing love for the former Saints star…
