Southampton need to beat Milan to the signing of Scamacca

Southampton are reportedly eyeing up a summer move for Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Southampton are one of three teams showing interest in Scamacca as they weigh up a swoop for the striker in the next transfer window.

The report claims that European giants Benfica and AC Milan are also potential suitors for the Italian.

Southampton need to beat Milan and Benfica to his signature as he appears to be a top talent in the making. The 21-year-old has impressed at club and youth international level in recent seasons, leading to this interest from clubs across Europe.

Scamacca has scored 11 goals in 19 starts on loan at Ascoli from Sassuolo, whilst he has also managed an incredible 34 goals for Italy across various youth levels to date – with four goals in eight games at U21 level. This shows that he is a natural goalscorer and could have the potential to succeed in the top flight, given his performances in the second tier at such a young age.

This is why Southampton must make sure they are able to win the race to land him this summer, as they could be securing the services of a great player for the future. With the coaching of Ralph Hasenhuttl, and potential loan moves, he could end up being an excellent signing if he continues to develop at his current rate and become a consistent goalscorer.
