Southampton should make a £10m bid for Millwall star Jake Cooper following Gary Rowett’s latest comments.
Rowett says that he is not paying attention to speculation over Cooper’s future until a £10m bid comes in.
Speaking to London News, Rowett said:
You take it as part and parcel of the game, so I don’t read an awful lot into it until someone at the club says: ‘We’ve had a £10million bid for Jake Cooper’. Until then I don’t give it a second thought.
Football Insider claim that Southampton are interested in a deal for Cooper and could make a move for him in the summer.
With Rowett hinting at Cooper possibly being valued at £10m, Southampton should make an offer for the defender in that region. This is because the club are also reportedly open to offers for Jannik Vestergaard, who they value at around £20m.
If Southampton are able to sell Vestergaard for £20m, they could replace him with Cooper for half the price. Cooper is almost three years younger than Vestergaard and has impressed in the Championship this season. He has recorded a WhoScored rating of 6.8 and is averaging a dominant 4.5 aerial battles won per game.
This suggests that Southampton could be doing some shrewd business if they’re able to sell Vestergaard and replace him with Cooper.
