Southampton have been handed a huge boost as Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed that Danny Ings is fit to face Newcastle.
Hasenhuttl says that it was the right decision to rest Ings against West Ham last week, with the forward now ready to play against Newcastle and hungry to score again.
Speaking to Southampton’s website, Hasenhuttl said:
It was good that he [Danny Ings] was rested last week because the risk was too high. It was a good decision, although we missed him a little bit. He’s absolutely hungry to score again.

This could be a huge boost to Southampton’s chances of winning the game as their top scorer is able to start. He was sat on the bench against West Ham last weekend as Southampton lost 3-1. Whilst Michael Obafemi scored, he did not offer as much as Ings in general play with his movement or ability on the ball in the build-up – with Southampton struggling to create chances.
Ings has been in sensational form in the Premier League this season and has managed 15 goals to date. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Jamie Vardy are the top scorers in the division with 17 goals, so Ings is still competing for the Golden Boot this season.
This shows the threat Ings carries at the top end of the pitch and why having him available will greatly improve Southampton’s chances of winning the game. Goals win games and Ings is a player who scores them, what more do you need?
Southampton’s next top scorer after Ings is James Ward-Prowse, with four, which shows the drop off in terms of goal threats in Southampton’s squad without Ings and why his presence is so important to the team.
