A number of Southampton fans have come out in defence of goalkeeper Alex McCarthy after his mistake against West Ham at the weekend.
The Saints lost for the third time in four games as they were smashed 3-1 by West Ham on Saturday.
West Ham took the lead through a brilliant finish from Jarrod Bowen, who snuck in on left and dinked the ball over McCarthy and into the corner. Southampton responded well, though, and quickly equalised as Michael Obafemi found the back of the net from James Ward-Prowse’s cross into the box.
McCarthy then had a moment to forget as he failed to collect a high ball and was muscled out of the way by Sebastien Haller, with the French forward then able to finish into an empty net. The Saints goalkeeper was not assertive enough and allowed Haller to ease him out of the way and score.
These Southampton fans, however, are sticking by their man.
