Southampton missed the chance to move further clear of the relegation zone after a disappointing 3-1 defeat at West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.
The Hammers took the lead after 15 minutes with Pablo Fornals picking out Jarrod Bowen in the Southampton box before the latter expertly finished passed Alex McCarthy.
The Saints equalised on the half-hour mark following a quick break that led to James Ward-Prowse being played down the right before cutting the ball back to Michael Obafemi who guided the ball home.
The hosts should’ve restored their lead soon after as Issa Diop had a free header from a corner but somehow failed it hit the target.
David Moyes’ side did then retake the lead before half-time as Sebastien Haller made the most of a goalkeeping mistake to finish into an empty net.
The Hammers then sealed the victory soon after the break courtesy of a Michail Antonio side-footed finish.
The game eventually petered out as West Ham claimed a vital three points in their battle for survival to win a fifth straight match against Southampton.
