Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has reportedly rejected a contract offer from the club.
According to Football Insider, Hojbjerg has turned down Southampton’s attempt to tie him down to a longer-term deal at St. Mary’s.
The report claims that Tottenham are set to pursue a deal for the midfielder in the summer and have made him one of their top targets.
READ SOUTHAMPTON VERDICT
Hojbjerg will have 12 months left on his deal come the summer transfer window and his decision to reject Southampton’s offer, along with his move to join up with super-agent Pini Zahavi, suggests that he could be looking to move on.
He has signed with Zahavi after leaving his previous agent in December, which suggests that he could be trying to get himself a transfer to Spurs. This is because Zahavi reportedly has a close relationship with Jose Mourinho and Daniel Levy.
The Danish midfielder is Southampton’s club captain and has recorded an impressive WhoScored rating of 6.83 in the Premier League. This shows that it could be a blow for Southampton to lose him, given his impact on and off the pitch for the Saints. Hojbjerg being the captain of the club suggests that he is a leader on and off the pitch and a good voice in the dressing room, which is why his exit could be a massive loss for Southampton.
