A number of Southampton fans have hit out at manager Ralph Hasenhuttl for his comments about the crowd at St. Mary’s.
Hasenhuttl has partly blamed the supporters at St. Mary’s for Southampton’s troublesome home form this season, stating that they put too much pressure on their side.
Southampton have the worst home record in the Premier League this season, losing more games (eight) than any other side in the division. Hasenhuttl says that his players are not always able to cope with the pressure the crowd puts on them, which is why he feels his team plays better away from home when the weight is seemingly lifted off their shoulders.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, Hasenhuttl said:
Sometimes it is a little difficult to play at home.
Against Burnley, everyone expects that we are 3-0 up after ten minutes. It is a little hard to show this, this is a pressure guys aren’t used to carrying.
In away games, no-one expects anything from us. Maybe that’s the reason we perform better in away games.

The Saints now host Aston Villa at St. Mary’s in the Premier League this weekend. It could be a great chance for the supporters to prove Hasenhuttl wrong and get behind the team.
