Southampton forward Danny Ings scored his 18th goal of the season on Saturday in a 2-1 defeat to Burnley.

It was his 15th goal in the Premier League, 18th in all competitions, as he fired a rasping shot into the bottom corner, from the edge of the box, to make the score 1-1 at the time.

This came after a colossal error in judgement from Ings gifted Burnley the opening goal. Ashley Westwood whipped a corner into the near post and Ings, who was in a position to clear it comfortably, moved out of the way and allowed it to go straight in the goal. Alex McCarthy was two-to-three yards behind his line, so when he blocked the effort it had already gone in.

However, Ings did score his excellent goal after that to make up for his mistake. Unfortunately, Matej Vydra’s goal meant that Burnley traveled back up north with the three points.
