Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has opened the door to the possibility of Kevin Danso playing at centre-back in the Premier League.
Danso joined the club on loan from Augsburg last summer on deadline day, but is yet to play a single minute of league action in his natural position.
All of his appearances in the Premier League to date have come at left-back or right-back, due to the lack of depth in those positions. However, Hasenhuttl says that the exit of Maya Yoshida could mean that Danso gets more opportunities in the middle between now and the end of the season.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, Hasenhuttl said:
He played one time [as a centre-back] in the Carabao Cup against Fulham. That’s where he is more used to playing.
Now, maybe in the future, he will have more chances as a centre-back where he is more comfortable.
Jack Stephens, Jan Bednarek and Jannik Vestergaard are currently ahead of Danso in the pecking order at centre-back, but it will only take a couple of injuries or suspension and he could get his chance.
These Southampton fans reacted with mixed feelings to the prospect of Danso playing at centre-back in the Premier League.
