Southampton are reportedly set to hand striker Shane Long a new contract to keep him at the club.
According to The Telegraph, Long is poised to sign an extended deal with Southampton to stop him from leaving the club on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Long’s current contract expires in the summer and he will become a free agent if Southampton do not tie him down to a new deal, which they appear set to do in the coming weeks. Although, the report does not state how long his contract will be.
The Irish international has scored two and assisted two in all competitions this season, with both of his goals coming in his last five appearances for the club. He scored in Southampton’s last match, against Tottenham in the FA Cup, and against Wolves last month.
These Southampton fans reacted to the news, delighted to see that he is set to stay at the club.
