Southampton moved back down into the bottom half of the table on Saturday as they were thumped 4-0 by Liverpool at Anfield.
The Saints are now down to 13th in the Premier League table, although they are only five points behind Sheffield United in sixth – keeping the European dream alive.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side were able to limit Liverpool’s chances during the first-half and went into half time with a respectable 0-0 scoreline. Liverpool then turned up the gas after the break and came out firing in the second-half to dismantle the Southampton defence.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made it 1-0 just two minutes into the second half, before goals from Jordan Henderson and Mo Salah (2) made sure of the three points.
There was, however, a moment in the first half in which some Southampton fans believe they were unfortunate not to get a decision go their way.
Liverpool defender Andy Robertson appeared to poke the ball back to Alisson under pressure in the box, with the Brazilian goalkeeper picking it up – only for the referee, Kevin Friend, to wave play on rather than awarding an indirect free-kick for a pass back.
These Southampton fans reacted to the incident on social media and were clearly unhappy about the decision.
