Hojbjerg hints at Saints future amid Spurs and Arsenal interest

Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has dropped a hint over his future on Instagram amid reported interest from Tottenham and Arsenal.

Hojbjerg made his 100th appearance for Southampton against Liverpool over the weekend, with the club taking to Instagram to congratulate him on his milestone.

The midfielder then commented on the post saying “Let’s go for 100 more” with a smiling saint emoji attached.

Sky Sports reported in January that Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton were all interested in a deal for the Danish international. The report also stated that Hojbjerg is now one of Tottenham’s top targets heading into the summer transfer window.

With all of this speculation in mind, it is great to see Hojbjerg reiterate his desire to keep playing for the club and represent the badge.

He is currently third in the Southampton squad for WhoScored ratings this season, with only Danny Ings and James Ward-Prowse averaging higher scores per-game in the Premier League for the club. This goes to show why clubs like Spurs and Arsenal are showing an interest him, but also why Southampton need to keep him.

The issue for Southampton is that Hojbjerg will only have 12 months left on his contract in the summer, which means that they could be running the risk of letting him leave on a free if they do not sell him on.

However, his comments on Instagram do not appear to be those of a man who is completely unwilling to sign a new deal at the club.

This means that there could be hope for the Saints in terms of tying him down to an extended contract, although there have been no reports suggesting that any agreement is close or even being spoken about.
