Tottenham have been dealt a blow heading into their FA Cup clash with Southampton as it has been revealed that Steven Bergwijn is ineligible to play.
Bergwijn signed for Tottenham from PSV last week and scored in their 2-0 win over Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.
Football.london report, however, that he will not be available for the replay against Southampton as he was not a Tottenham player for the original fixture.
The FA rules state that a player must have been eligible to play in the first game to be able to feature in the replay, thus Bergwijn out of the match.

This could be a huge boost for the Saints, given Bergwijn’s excellent display for Spurs against Manchester City over the weekend. Bergwijn recorded a WhoScored rating of 7.53 for his performance, scoring with his only shot of the game. He collected the ball on his chest just inside the box and reacted quickly to fire a volley straight into the bottom corner of Ederson’s goal.
In the first half of the season, Bergwijn produced five goals and 10 assists in 15 league appearances for PSV. This shows how productive he can be in the final third and why he could have been a major threat to the Southampton defence if he was able to play on Wednesday.
Instead, he is not going to be playing the Saints and will have to watch on from the sidelines. This may be a big boost because it means Tottenham will be without one of their best attacking players for the clash, limiting their threat at the top end of the pitch.
