Klopp delighted by the form of Danny Ings

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his delight at the form of Southampton striker Danny Ings this month.

Klopp says that everyone at Liverpool is happy for Ings and that he wishes him all the best for the rest of the season, aside from the match on Saturday.

Southampton travel away to face Liverpool at Anfield looking to become the first team to defeat the Reds in the Premier League. Liverpool have won 23 and drawn one of their 24 league matches so far this season.

Speaking to Liverpool’s website, Klopp said this:

Everybody in this building is so happy about the situation of Danny. Even if he is not anymore, he is still ‘our boy’, kind of, and we all follow each step of his career.

We are celebrating goals he scores – that will be different tomorrow obviously, but apart from the games against us we couldn’t wish him better than we do. He is such a wonderful person.

Ings has been in terrific form for Southampton in all competitions this season. The former Liverpool forward has scored 16 goals in all competitions for the Saints, with 14 of those strikes coming in the Premier League. This highlights his importance to the Saints side and how he could be key for them in picking up a result at Anfield.

Considering no other side has managed to come away with a single point from Anfield this season, Southampton could need Ings to be at his goalscoring best to even have a slither of a chance. Ings did score in the reverse fixture, closing down stand-in goalkeeper Adrian at St. Mary’s in a 2-1 defeat. This shows that he does have the capability to score against this Liverpool side, but it will also be about whether Southampton can keep the likes of Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino at bay at the other end.
