Southampton are reportedly set to demand £25m for Leicester transfer target Jannik Vestergaard this month.
According to Ekstra Bladet, via Sport Witness, Vestergaard is Leicester’s number one target, with Southampton wanting to rake in £25m for the Danish international.
The report claims that Leicester are keen on signing a centre-back this month, but Southampton are poised to ask for a £7m profit on the defender they signed for £18m in 2018.
READ SOUTHAMPTON VERDICT
Considering Vestergaard is Southampton’s third choice centre-back, making a £7m profit would be great business by the club. As valuable as Vestergaard is as a back-up, helping Southampton keep a clean sheet against Crystal Palace earlier this week, sometimes the money makes sense.
Of course, the report only states that it is the fee Southampton want and does not state whether or not Leicester are willing to pay it. If they are, though, I would suggest that Southampton should accept it and look to replace him before the end of the window. This is due to them potentially receiving a huge profit on a player who is not essential to the starting XI and it allows them to possibly reinvest the money in a younger player with potential to improve the team going forward.
