Southampton got back to winning ways after an exemplary 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace that moved the side into the top half of the Premier League.
Saints broke the deadlock midway through the first half courtesy of a brilliant solo goal from Nathan Redmond after some great control and an exquisite finish into the top corner.
The visitors were sublime at times in the first half and would have been disappointed to go into half-time only 1-0 up.
Tempers were frayed throughout the match, but it seemed to reach boiling point at the interval when Wilfried Zaha appeared to poke James Ward-Prowse in the eye with the two players having history against each other after an equally fiery occasion last season.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side doubled their lead soon after the break thanks to another excellent strike, this time from Stuart Armstrong, who unleashed a fierce shot from the edge of the box.
