Celta not interested in a deal to sign Boufal
Celta Vigo are reportedly not interested in a deal to sign Southampton forward Sofiane Boufal this month.
According to Spanish outlet Atlantico, via Sport Witness, Celta are not looking to sign Boufal from Southampton before the end of the transfer window.
Faro de Vigo reported earlier this month that Celta were keen on a move for Boufal, as well as his teammate Oriol Romeu. Atlantico back up the interest in Romeu, but dismiss any links to Boufal.
READ SOUTHAMPTON VERDICT
Boufal has been subjected to a bench role for the majority of this season, starting only five Premier League games for Southampton. This suggests that he does not have a major role in Hasenhuttl’s squad, although did he prove to be a star early in the season – providing two assists in his first four games.
However, since those first four games he has failed to provide a single direct goal contribution in 12 appearances. This shows that he has lost his spark of late and is struggling to perform to the best of his abilities. Southampton could look to cash on him now, in case his slump continues and his valuation drops along with it.
This could be their best chance to get a decent offer for Boufal, based on his recent form, although there is no suggestion that Southampton are willing to let him go. Ultimately, it will up to Ralph Hasenhuttl and Southampton as to whether they want him at the club or not.
