Southampton comprehensively defeated Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon courtesy of a brace from Danny Ings and a goal from Jack Stephens, securing a 3-1 win.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side climbed out of the bottom three, leapfrogged their counterparts, and moved three points clear of Dean Smith’s men in the process.
Saints started on the front foot and took the lead after Tom Heaton could only parry Shane Long’s low effort into the path of Ings, who tapped home into an empty net.
Soon after, it was 2-0 to the visitors, as Stephens nodded in a well-taken corner from James Ward-Prowse.
Ings made it three following the interval as he capitalised on a mistake from Marvelous Nakamba to swivel and fire beyond Heaton into the top corner.
Villa pulled one back as Jack Grealish thumped home a fine half-volley from distance, but Southampton came away with three vital points.
Here are four findings from the victory at Villa Park.
