Southampton recorded a massive 3-1 win at Aston Villa to move above their opponents and out of the relegation zone.
Saints broke the deadlock after 20 minutes when Shane Long was played in behind, his shot was parried by Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton before Danny Ings finished the rebound.
It became 2-0 on the half hour mark as Jack Stephens headed home a James Ward-Prowse corner.
Saints added a third soon after half-time courtesy of Ings again as he capitalised on a defensive blunder to expertly finish past Heaton.
The hosts pulled one back with 15 minutes left following a superb Jack Grealish half volley from the edge of the box.
The visitors would hold on to record a huge victory in their fight for survival, with these three points meaning that Villa replace Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side in the bottom three, ensuring Saints will enjoy Christmas Day above the dotted line.
