According to a report from Sky Sports, Red Bull Salzburg centre-back Marin Pongracic is a ‘long-term target’ for Southampton.
Saints are in a precarious position this season and find themselves in the relegation zone of the Premier League.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s job has come under some scrutiny in recent months, but it seems as though plans are being made for the January transfer window next month.
Sky Sports reports that Southampton want to strengthen their defensive options, and the manager is open to the prospect of another centre-back arriving.

As such, Pongracic is noted as a possible option for the club, having been on their radar for some time.

There is a plethora of exciting young talent at Salzburg, and it comes as no surprise to see Saints sniffing around ahead of the January window.
Pongracic is a promising young defender who has experience of working within tactical systems akin to that of Hasenhuttl’s.
The 22-year-old still has plenty to learn, but he would immediately come in and improve the rather underwhelming pool of central defenders who are currently at the manager’s disposal.
