Jannik Vestergaard has been linked with a January exit from Southampton in recent days.

Having fallen out of favour at the club under Ralph Hasenhuttl, speculation is gathering to suggest that he could depart St Mary’s on loan until the end of the season at the turn of the year.

Vestergaard has lost his place in the starting line-up, with Jack Stephens and Jan Bednarek emerging as the club’s first-choice partnership in the heart of the defence.

Saints fans have been reacting to the news that the 27-year-old could be off in January, and some supporters are seemingly content with the possibility of his departure…

Vestergaard, aside from a couple of matches, has been really poor this season, and it’s little surprise to see that a lot of Southampton fans have lost patience with him.

He arrived for £18 million, and it was hoped that he would be the solution to Saints’ defensive woes. Quite simply, he has only added to them.

Strengthening the first-team squad’s options at the back has to be a priority in January, but if the club are to do so, it may well be a case of needing to offload one centre-back before a new face comes through the door.
