Southgate keeping tabs on Forster
England manager Gareth Southgate is reportedly keeping tabs on Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster as he considers calling him up in the future.
Forster is currently on loan to Celtic in Scotland and has caught the eye with a host of impressive performances in the Europa League for Neil Lennon’s side.
According to The Athletic, his form has put him in Southgate’s thoughts once again, despite missing out on the current squad. Jordan Pickford, Dean Henderson and Nick Pope are the three goalkeepers in Southgate’s 23-man squad.

As much as Forster is impressing in the Europa League, he is still at a massive disadvantage by playing in the Scottish league. The Premier League is a big step up in quality, with Celtic walking to the title each season. This lack of competitiveness could count against Forster, with the goalkeepers he is competing against playing Premier League football week in week out.
However, if Forster can continue to shine in Europe and help Celtic progress to the latter stages of the competition, he could do enough for Southgate to bring him back into the England set-up. Current Southampton goalkeepers Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn have both been called up by England in the past, but do not appear to be in Southgate’s thoughts at this moment in time.
