Many fans and pundits were predicting another heavy defeat at the hands of the reigning Premier League champions.
Saints stunned the Cityzens after 13 minutes when James Ward-Prowse tucked away a rebound from Ederson, who spilled Stuart Armstrong’s speculative effort.
Incredibly, the first-half ended with City failing to have a single shot on target, largely down to some courageous and brave defending from the visitors.
The hosts eventually equalised with 20 minutes left after Kyle Walker’s drilled ball in was finished by Sergio Aguero.
Saints hearts were broken in the 86th minute when Walker finished an Angelino cross to win the game.
Despite the result, this was the perfect response to last Friday’s 9-0 defeat to Leicester with every player fighting for one another and doing all they could to get a result.
