Southampton have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of a new figure to head up the club’s recruitment strategies in recent times.
Following the 9-0 defeat at the hands of Leicester City, and with Ross Wilson’s move to Rangers in mind, it seems the club are pushing to secure a new player trading expert in the immediate future.
Two names have been touted as options – former Saints boss Dave Jones and ex-Schalke sporting director Erik Stoffelshaus – but The Athletic reports that neither are under ‘serious’ consideration for the role.

Southampton will continue to pursue a figure to support Ralph Hasenhuttl in his management of the first team, but it appears as though the club’s preferred candidate remains unknown.

Re-appointing Jones, this time in an upstairs role, probably wouldn’t have been a good idea. He has little to no experience in the field and has been out of work for some time.
Stoffelshaus, meanwhile, boasts a more eye-catching pedigree and had been credited for unearthing gems like Mesut Ozil during his previous ventures in Germany.
Nevertheless, it seems the club have other targets in mind, and the need to organise a clear structure at boardroom level has hardly ever been more pressing.
