Mohamed Elyounoussi has claimed that Fraser Forster is Southampton’s best goalkeeper.
The winger, as quoted by The Evening Times, spoke after netting a brace in Celtic’s comprehensive 6-0 win over Ross County in the Scottish Premiership at the weekend.
Elyounoussi completed a season-long loan move to Celtic, joining fellow Saints outcast Forster in the process.
Since their respective arrivals at Parkhead, both players have been fundamental parts of Neil Lennon’s plans.
Elyounoussi explained how Forster has helped him to settle in at Celtic and also stated he believes the former England international is Southampton’s best goalkeeper when he is at his best.

The Norway international said:
Fraser is a quality keeper. I lost count of the number of times we were the last ones after training, me doing shooting and him in goals. I know how good he is.
I think he was the best one [goalkeeper] at Southampton. He’s amazing at his best. Hopefully, for his sake, he can get that positive energy back and get back where he was.
Read Southampton’s verdict
Forster was a superb goalkeeper for Southampton when he was at the peak of his powers. Sadly, those days are long gone, and it’s hard to see him ever returning to his best form.
Saints haven’t had much luck with their ‘keepers in recent years, and a strong case can be made to suggest that Alex McCarthy has been the most reliable of those who have played, particularly in light of Angus Gunn’s recent showings.
It’s good to see that Forster is rebuilding his confidence at Celtic, but a clean break away from Southampton is probably what he needed.
Hopefully, he can earn himself a permanent move to the Scottish champions following a difficult few years at St Mary’s.
