Alex McCarthy has been pictured in training ahead of Southampton’s fixture against Chelsea at the weekend.
The goalkeeper missed Saints’ 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur with a slight knock, but it seems he has recovered from the minor setback.
As posted in a gallery from the club’s official website, McCarthy was put through his paces with Southampton’s next Premier League outing edging nearer.
The experienced shot-stopper started in the 4-0 win over Portsmouth, but Angus Gunn returned to the starting line-up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It’s good to see McCarthy back in training. Gunn has made two glaring errors in his most-recent couple of outings, and it’s probably time for a change between the sticks.
Saints have absolutely no room for error on Sunday. Chelsea have displayed real cutting edge under Frank Lampard so far this season, and the visitors will head into this game with plenty of confidence.
Gunn is by no means a bad goalkeeper, but he is definitely in a bad patch of form. Taking him out of the firing line may be the best course of action for Ralph Hasenhuttl.
McCarthy has proven on numerous occasions that he is a dependable player for Southampton, and he’ll have to be at his best if he does indeed return to the starting line-up against Chelsea.
