The South Coast Derby isn’t far away now, and it’s safe to say that both sets of fans are eagerly anticipating a reunion.
Portsmouth will play host to Southampton for the first time since the 2011/12 campaign on September 24, with the two teams keen to claim bragging rights in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
The two most recent meetings between the sides ended with the honours even. When Pompey hosted Saints at Fratton Park, the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw, while at St Mary’s later in the season, a late David Norris volley rescued a 2-2 draw for the visitors.
However, later this month, a draw is impossible. If the scores are level come the full-time whistle, a penalty shootout will decide who comes out on top.
It’s a fierce rivalry and one that is perhaps underrated by those outside of the two clubs’ fan-bases. However, there is no shortage of players who have donned both teams’ colours in the years gone by.
So, join us as we take a trip down memory lane, and look at 10 players who have played for both Southampton and Portsmouth ahead of the derby…
