Could Southampton signing David spell the end of Shane Long’s time at the club?
It is a distinct possibility, given the lack of game-time given to Long by Ralph Hasenhuttl so far this season. Long has been utilised off the bench twice by Hasenhuttl, in the League Cup against Fulham and in the Premier League against Manchester United.
If David were to arrive in England during the January transfer window, it would push Long further down the pecking order and potentially leave him in a position where he would need to consider his future if he wants regular minutes.
At 32, Long still has a few years left in him and should look to make the most of it, rather than languishing on the bench or in the stands at Southampton.
