On Tuesday night, Southampton were drawn against Fulham in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
Saints will take on the Championship outfit at Craven Cottage as they partake in their first domestic cup outing of the new season.
Fulham hold high hopes of returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking this term, but they will undoubtedly be keen to test themselves against current top-flight opposition once more.

So, just how did the Saints fans react to the prospect of a midweek trip to Fulham in the Carabao Cup? Here are some reactions…
Twitter: Boring. #SaintsFC (@saints622)
Twitter: When Paul Robinson pulled our name out for a game vs Fulham. #SaintsFC https://t.co/ojoaxe0bt5 (@ffsJxy)
Twitter: Was really hoping for Pompey in the cup. I’ve forgotten what a derby feels like as they’ve been rotting for so long… https://t.co/lFLyjG2b1Y (@lukephilip94)
Twitter: Oh well….. least it wasn’t Palace!! For a change

Twitter: Perfect #saintsfc EFL cup draw, we can get out early without anyone really caring. (@saintsnumbers)
Twitter: Uninspiring draw to say the least, but nice ground and a cracking away day. As dead ties go, I’m quite pleased with that.

Read Southampton’s verdict
It could be worse for Saints, but it could be a lot better. Fulham away is a difficult fixture at the best of times, and it’s set to be a tight game with both sides likely to rotate.

The game presents Ralph Hasenhuttl to hand some of his fringe players a good chance to impress against opposition of reasonable standard, but our chances of progressing to the third round are hardly guaranteed.
It would have been nice to have either had a game at home or an away game in more unfamiliar circumstances.
Ultimately, it wasn’t Pompey away yet again, so anything less comes as a bit of a let-down…
