Naby Keita limped out of Liverpool training on Tuesday evening, and ahead of their trip to Southampton this weekend, it could come as a boost for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men.
The Guinea international was preparing for Wednesday night’s UEFA Super Cup final against Chelsea in Istanbul when he sustained a knock and was forced to remove himself from Jurgen Klopp’s session, according to The Liverpool Echo.
Whether or not Keita’s injury is severe is currently unknown, but Saints will be hoping to capitalise on the Reds’ recent fitness troubles when they lock horns with the European champions on Saturday.

It’s never nice to see a player suffer an injury, and hopefully, Keita won’t be ruled out for too long. However, ahead of our game against Liverpool, we’re going to need all the help we can get!
The Reds are likely to rotate as they have matches on both Wednesday and Saturday, with a fair bit of travelling involved. They are well stocked with midfield options, but Keita’s knock could see them be forced to stick with the likes of Fabinho or Jordan Henderson despite a fixture pile-up early on in the season.
Hasenhuttl will be desperate for a response from his side after their 3-0 loss at Burnley, and Saints are likely to play with intensity. This could work against Liverpool, as Wednesday evening’s fixture with Chelsea is set to be a closely-contested, physically-exerting battle.
Also, Keita is more than familiar with the tactical approach at St Mary’s Stadium. His best performances to date came under the management of Hasenhuttl at RB Leipzig, and the Saints boss will be well aware of just how dangerous the midfielder can be on his day.
Liverpool have strength in depth, but with Alisson and possibly Keita ruled out on Saturday, they may be a little stretched in some areas.
