Kevin Danso has revealed the role that Ralph Hasenhuttl played in his decision to join Southampton, and it should definitely encourage the club’s supporters.
Speaking exclusively to Saints’ official website, the centre-back discussed the influence of the boss in his choice to depart FC Augsburg for the season to arrive at St Mary’s Stadium.
Danso, who links up with the first-team squad ahead of the Premier League clash with Liverpool on Saturday, said:
He was very influential. I know him and the work he’s done in the Bundesliga.
He’s also Austrian, I’m Austrian, so he was pivotal for me as part of my decision to come here. I’m ready to get to know him, get to know his tactics and kick on.

It’s no surprise that the allure of working under a manager like Hasenhuttl is significant, but hearing it from the new recruits always provides reassurance that the club is in safe hands.
For young players, gaining first-team experience is one thing, but having the intricacies of your game refined is another. Hasenhuttl has shown at both RB Leipzig and Southampton that he is only too willing to offer youthful talents ample opportunities to prove their worth.
Danso evidently feels as though his development can be aided by the methods of his compatriot, and it is hard to disagree. He is a raw player but has bags of potential, and could take the next step under the Saints boss.
Hasenhuttl’s influence stands the club in good stead for later transfer windows as they look to convince exciting youngsters to further their careers here, and the fans should take encouragement from Danso’s comments.
