Southampton concluded their pre-season with a 2-0 win at home to German side FC Cologne.
Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl wasn’t in the dugout for this final friendly after the Austrian had undergone a minor procedure on a leg injury in a local hospital.
Che Adams won a penalty inside the first four minutes after he beat FC Cologne’s Rafael Chizichos for pace before being brought down by the defender.
Strike partner Danny Ings stepped forward and coolly slotted home by sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
Saints then won another spot kick after 20 minutes; this time Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was upended by Ehizibue after a burst into the box
However, Ings fluffed his lines this time around after a tame effort went straight down the middle and was guessed correctly by the Cologne’s keeper.
Saints doubled their lead soon after the break thanks to a brilliant one-two between Hojbjerg and Adams, which led to the skipper finishing from close range.
After a final win before the start of the Premier League next weekend, here’s how we rated the Saints starting XI:
