Ralph Hasenhüttl has been a revelation for Southampton since his arrival.
The Austrian has been in the dugout for 15 Premier League fixtures, collecting 21 points during that time.
However, despite Hasenhüttl’s impressive tenure in charge of the Saints, the club are just two points clear of the relegation zone with eight games left to play.
Southampton’s league finish will also have a huge impact on any potential summer transfer business.
One area Hasenhüttl will surely look to strengthen in the summer is in midfield.
The Saints are short of numbers in the midfield department and could do with bolstering their options in the summer.
So here at Read Southampton, we’ve decided to take a look at five midfielders the Saints should consider bringing to St Mary’s this summer.
Tom Cairney
A key member of the Fulham squad, Cairney has proven he can compete at Premier League level.
And with Fulham staring down the barrel of relegation back to the Championship, Cairney may well be tempted with a move to Southampton in the summer, if the Saints remain in the Premier League.
Kerem Demirbay
Box-to-box midfielder Demirbay is an important member of the Hoffenheim squad. The 25-year-old would bring plenty of energy and also has an eye for goal.
Aaron Mooy
Perhaps Huddersfield Town’s best performer in the Premier League, Mooy would definitely be a realistic option for the Saints.
The Australian will surely leave the Terriers in the summer and could be a man in demand across the Premier League.
Diego Demme
A man Hasenhüttl knows well – RB Leipzig midfielder Demme worked under the Austrian in Germany.
The 27-year-old, who has an impressive range of passing and won’t shy away from a tackle, has been with the Bundesliga outfit for five years and may well be open to a move to the Premier League.
David Turnbull
Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull was linked with a move to Southampton back in December.
The teenager has impressed in Scotland this season, scoring nine times in 24 appearances, and could well be a shrewd investment for the future.
