Southampton Player Ratings: Burnley (A)

The spoils were shared between Southampton and Burnley at Turf Moor, after a late Ashley Barnes penalty equalised after Nathan Redmond’s long-range strike.

Jack Stephens was penalised for handball with seconds left on the clock, after pressure from debutant Peter Crouch.

Hassenhuttl hoped his side would produce a smoother performance than that which saw them take just a single point away from St Mary’s against Crystal Palace in midweek. James Ward-Prowse continuing his fine form with his third goal in as many games.

The young Englishman performed admirably at full back for a period on Wednesday and was asked to perform that role again against Sean Dyche’s men. Callum Slattery took Pierre-Emile Hojbjergs place in midfield, and Stuart Armstrong came into the starting lineup to support Danny Ings and Nathan Redmond.

The result sees Southampton stay 16th and Burnley 17th, but most importantly 5 points clear of Cardiff in the relegation zone.

Here is how we rated the players.
