Southampton confirmed the appointment of Ralph Hasenhuttl as their new first-team manager on Wednesday.
Mark Hughes was sacked earlier this week and Hassenhuttl now comes in, with Cardiff set to be his first game in charge – with Kelvin Davis acting as caretaker against Tottenham.
The January transfer window is under a month away and Hassenhuttl is likely to want some funds to bring in players he wants.
With over 300 games managed across several divisions in Germany, the Austrian will have an extensive knowledge of German footballers.
Here are some Germans he could sign for Southampton in January…
Simon Terodde
The 30-year-old has scored 19 goals in 14 2. Bundesliga games for Koln this season. He would add some much needed firepower up front for the Saints.
Patrick Herrmann
Saints are in need of more options out wide and Herrmann is known for being a pacey winger. The 27-year-old could be an ideal signing.
Matthias Ginter
A player heavily linked to Southampton in the past. Ginter impressed last season in the Bundesliga and would improve the club’s defence.
Hanno Behrens
The 28-year-old holding midfielder is currently playing in the Bundesliga with Nurnberg, after scoring 14 goals in the 2. Bundesliga last season. He would add some steel to the Saints midfield.
Davie Selke
10 Bundesliga goals for Hertha Berlin last season, Selke could come in as an option up front for Hasenhuttl. He joined Hertha in 2017 for a fee in the region of £8.5m.
Marcel Hastenberg
One of the more unlikely options. Hastenberg has impressed at left-back for Hasenhuttl’s former side Leipzig and Southampton have struggled with depth in the fullback positions this season.
