Southampton suffered defeat on their travels this afternoon after suffering a 2-1 loss to Everton at Goodison Park.
Everton scored two first half goals that would go on to secure them the victory. Former Saint Theo Walcott scored the first goal of the afternoon, scoring from a free kick to give the Toffees the lead.
New signing Richarlison then scored a second for Everton on 30 minutes, leaving the Saints 2-0 down going into the break.
Danny Ings would net for Southampton, his first for the Saints, to make it 2-1, but it wasn’t enough to salvage a point for Mark Hughes’ side.
Here’s how we rated the Saints today.
Alex McCarthy - 6
Solid as always for Saints again.
Cedric - 5
Couldn’t win it in the air for the Everton second. Must do better.
Jack Stephens - 3
Looked shaky throughout. Not convincing at all.
Wesley Hoedt - 3
Gave away a foul that led to the first goal.
Ryan Bertrand - 6
Did better than the rest of his defence.
James Ward-Prowse - 4
Poor again in a disappointing loss for the Saints.
Mario Lemina - 4
Could do a lot better for Southampton.
Oriol Romeu - 5
The midfielder did okay, but Saints must improve after a poor defeat.
Nathan Redmond - 6
Had a decent game, but could’ve contributed to the game more.
Charlie Austin - 5
Looked unfit and sluggish throughout the game, subbed early on in the second half.
Danny Ings - 7
Got on the scoresheet for the first time with Southampton. Good debut.
